Who we are, and what we do

Eplaheimr is an Irish shire within the Society of Creative Anachronism, an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the fighting styles, archery styles, arts and skills of medieval times without the plague, unusual tortures and short lifespans. We are a social bunch, with lots of opportunities for Vikings or Tudors to learn and work in their times, while still getting to hang out with Normans or Renaissance Italians, or any of the many rich and varied cultures up til 1600. Eplaheimr covers the midlands and South of the Republic of Ireland.

If you have an interest in learning fighting skills as they were practiced in the medieval period our Knight marshal is the person to contact. Did you know medieval fencing styles are not the same as modern Olympic style fencing? We have archery days and there are archery classes in the College of Kingeslake (Athlone IT) during term time on Friday afternoons. (contact our captain of archers!) Fencing and heavy armoured combat training sessions are available by arrangement, contact the Knight marshal for more
